About
Abdullah Ülker is a PhD candidate at Hacettepe University. He has studied the Ottoman-Byzantine frontier. His master’s thesis, according to frontier typology, aims to study social, cultural and political life in the early fourteenth-century Ottoman–Byzantine frontier which was a highly dynamic zone of interaction — with overlapping political, economic, and cultural spheres—where private relations and self-interests, rather than ideologies of loyalty, generally determined political allegiances.
